Syowia Kyambi (Kenya/Germany) is a multi-media artist based in Nairobi. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, USA. Her performance-based practice breaks down and rebuilds layers of present and past narratives; inclusive of history, personal and public perspectives, memory and identity.

She has been the recipient of several prestigious awards and grants including the UNESCO Award for the Promotion of the Arts; the Art in Global Health Grant from the Wellcome Trust Fund in United Kingdom; a grant from Mexico’s External Ministry of Affairs; and commissions by the Kenya Institute of Administration. Her work is also included as a permanent installation at the National Museum of Kenya and various private collections.

During her residency at Delfina Foundation, Syowia will continue to develop her on-going project, Between Us (2013 –), a choreographed performance due to be presented in Dresden and Bremen in 2016/2017.
