Gelare Khoshgozaran (Iran/USA) has a practice which is fluid in form and medium. Preoccupied with surveillance and simulation, her work ponders the production of sites through the perception of bodies, objects and images.
During her residency at Delfina – as part of the Collecting as Practice programme – Gelare will continue researching myths and geographies in relation to colonial taxonomies and categorisations against the backdrop of quota based neoliberal mandates of diversity among institutions.
Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at the New Museum, Queens Museum, Hammer Museum, LAXART, Human Resources, Visitor Welcome Center, Plugin ICA (Winnipeg), Beursschouwburg (Brussels), Pori Art Museum (Finland) and Cell Project Space (London). She was the recipient of a Creative Capital | Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant (2015), an Art Matters Award (2017), the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award (2019) and a Graham Foundation award (2020). Her words have appeared in contemptorary (co-founding editor), The Brooklyn Rail, Parkett, X-TRA, LA Review of Books, Art Practical, Ajam Media Collective and MARCH, among others.
