Silvia Martes (Netherlands) plays with the medium of film on multiple levels: experimenting with nonlinear storytelling spanning genres, from thriller and sci-fi to documentary, melodrama, and comedy. She investigates the shifts in power relations within filmic representations, commenting on autobiographical storytelling and exploring the blurring of boundaries through pseudo-fiction and intricate set building.
During her residency at Delfina Foundation, as part of Performance as Process, Silvia will conduct research for the scenario development for her first feature length film dealing with the topic of revenge.
Silvia studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and was an artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie Amsterdam from 2019 to 2021. In 2021 she was shortlisted for Prix de Rome and in the same year was the winner of the Theodora Niemeijer Prize. The artist’s most recent solo exhibitions were at Museum De Pont in Tilburg and the Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven. In 2023, her first retrospective solo exhibition took place at the Edith Russ House for Media Art in Oldenburg. She has also participated in exhibitions at Kunsthal Extra City, Antwerp (2022), Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2021), and EYE Filmmuseum, Amsterdam (2020), among others.
