Markéta Slaná (Czechia) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work delves into the enigmatic terrain of the digital landscape. Beginning with doomscrolling – the compulsion to consume excessive amounts of negative digital content – she investigates the psychology of dissociation, alienation, and post-ironic detachment through her practice based in installation and performance. Her work embraces the absurdity laden in the tension of living in a hyperconnected yet disconnected world.

While in residence at Delfina Foundation, Markéta will develop a new performance script focused on the emotional states of delusion, dissociation and distraction, extending to states which go beyond linguistic description, such as emoji and ASCII symbols (“>_<“). Looking at the new digital trend of “bed rotting”, Markéta will explore how the digital-psychological world intersects and interrupts the broader social, political, and cultural landscape.

Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the National Gallery in Prague, Museumsquartier in Vienna and she recently participated in the AEP program at Rupert Residency in Vilnius and the Brno House of Arts. She graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague with a thesis focusing on ‘vibe’ as a worldmaking substance.

Markéta was born in Prague, where she is now based.
