Lêna Bùi (Vietnam) produces works that are draw sometimes from anecdotes, and at other times from in-depth articulations of human relationships to nature and the impact of rapid development on people’s lives. Working mainly through painting and video, she reflects on the ways in which tradition, faith, death and dreams influence our behaviour and perception.
During her residency at Delfina Foundation, as part of Performance as Process, Lêna will explore bodies in space — how space can be constructed to shape our movements and emotions, as well as structures of performance that can be used to weave elements in a video or painting into the viewer’s physical experience.
Lêna holds a B.A in East Asian Studies from Wesleyan University. Her work has been shown in solo, group exhibitions and screening programmes such as Monograph 2023 by Asian Film Archive; 2022 Jeju Biennale, the Asia Culture Center, South Korea; Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE; Sàn Art and The Factory Contemporary Art Center, Vietnam; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Germany; and the Wellcome Collection, London.
Lêna was born in Danang, and currently based in Saigon, Vietnam.
