Yeser Berro (Syria) is a multidisciplinary artist who works across literature, photography, and film.
During his residency, he is developing The Horseman of Sednaya, a novel set in the aftermath of the collapse of Assad’s regime. At the heart of this historic rupture, Idris, a Syrian translator working with foreign journalists, meets Rahim, a former Sednaya prisoner who claims he can communicate with the dead.
The novel examines individual and collective trauma, contemplating possibilities for healing in a society that has not yet freed itself from its violent past.
Alongside his literary work, he will continue his photographic practice, exploring questions of artistic freedom that echo his personal exile and the broader themes of his writing.
Yeser‘s recent publications include Night Swimming سباحة ليلية (English, 2025), a short story collection about Syrian insomniacs, and Song of Harsh Spring أغنية الربيع القاسي (Arabic, 2024), a novel about the Syrian war generation, supported by an Ettijahat grant and published by Mamdouh Adwan Publishing House.
Yeser was born in Aleppo, Syria, where he currently lives.
