Simon Speiser (Germany/Ecuador) is an artist known for his interdisciplinary approach that merges nature and technology through various media, including writing, sculpture, virtual reality, installations, and printmaking. His works explores themes of origins and the interplay between human and technological worlds. Blending virtual reality and ancestral folklore, weaving science fiction with non-western conceptions of technology, and believing in storytelling as a tool in the fight against dystopian thinking. Speiser often creates immersive, sensory experiences that highlight the convergence of traditional knowledge and contemporary digital techniques, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of precolonial cultures.
During his residency at Delfina Foundation Speiser wants to focus on further developing his piece called “Naufragio Liberador” (Liberating Shipwreck) which tells the history of the maroon societies in Esmeraldas Ecuador through the lens of string theory. As well as starting the research phase of a new collaborative project with Stephanie Comilang on the historic and the contemporary trade routes of Cacao. While taking the opportunity to enter into dialogue with people in the fields of art, science and historic research at various London based institutions.
He has exhibited at Tate Modern, Tai Kwun Hong Kong, Julia Stoschek Foundation Berlin, Walter Phillips Gallery Banff, CAC Quito Ecuador and Frankfurter Kunstverein among others.
