Nikolett Balázs’ (Hungary) textile sculptures inhabit space with ordered formality — completing the existing world. Their rippling folds, which open and close like flowers, intertwine many layers of meaning beyond feminist vulva symbolism; from folkloric tulip motifs to totemic individuality on flayed skin. Her artworks go all the way down to the roots and into the deep, embedded in the story of our own age and personal mythologies.
Nikolett plans to use her three-month residency period to explore London’s art scene, build new connections, and share valuable time with other artists and curators in residence.
Nikolett Balázs (b. 1990) graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2015. Since then, she has developed an internationally active artistic career. Nikolett was recently selected to take part in MANIFESTA 14 Prishtina, Saco Biennial Chile and VISEGRAD FUND Residency in New York.
Nikolett was born and is currently based in Budapest, Hungary.
