Karan Shrestha’s (Nepal/India) practice includes drawings, sculpture, photographs, films and texts that speak to the complex, entangled relations of Nepal’s recent history. Shrestha presents works that are an archive of the terrain, political histories, and transient memories, and a speculative world that suspends reality, to question ideas of progress while drawing connections to the ecological, cultural and socio-economical dimensions of Nepali life.
During his time at Delfina Foundation, Karan will expand his research on water in Nepal, with a focus on infectious diseases, and impacts of a changing climate on livelihoods and habitats shared by non-humans and humans.
Karan Shrestha has participated in numerous group exhibitions around the globe and has shown works in many institutions including Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong (2023); Jameel Arts Centre, UAE (2022); Kathmandu Triennale, Nepal (2017 & 2022); Museo Madre, Italy (2021); 10th Asia Pacific Triennial, QAGOMA, Australia (2021); Asian Art Biennale, Taiwan (2021); Dhaka Art Summit, Bangladesh (2020); Yinchuan Biennale, China (2018); and Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa (2017 & 2022), among others. He was the recipient of Prameya Art Foundation’s PAIR award, 2022.
Karan Shrestha was born in Nepal and lives in Kathmandu and Delhi.
