Karan Shrestha’s (Nepal/India) practice includes drawing, sculpture, photographs, film and text to speak to the complex, entangled relations of Nepal’s recent history. Karan presents works that are an archive of the political histories, terrain, transient memories and a speculative world that suspends reality to question ideas of progress while drawing connections to the ecological, cultural and socio-economic dimensions of Nepali life.
During his time at Delfina Foundation, Karan will expand his research on water systems in Nepal. He will focus on infectious diseases, water contamination, and the impacts of a changing water climate on livelihoods and habitats shared by humans and non-humans.
Karan has participated in numerous group exhibitions around the globe and has shown works in many institutions including Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong (2023); Jameel Arts Centre, UAE (2022); Kathmandu Triennale, Nepal (2017 & 2022); Museo Madre, Italy (2021); 10th Asia Pacific Triennial, QAGOMA, Australia (2021); Asian Art Biennale, Taiwan (2021); Dhaka Art Summit, Bangladesh (2020); Yinchuan Biennale, China (2018); and Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa (2017 & 2022), among others. He was the recipient of Prameya Art Foundation’s PAIR award, 2022.
Karan Shrestha was born in Nepal and is based in New Dehli.
