Danae Io (Greece/Netherlands), through video, sound, sculpture and text, examines language as an active agent in the systematising and codifying of sociopolitical infrastructures. From granular aspects of linguistics to bureaucracy, Danae’s work delves into organisational systems that have their roots in modernity and have been imposed far beyond ‘the West’.
During her residency at Delfina Foundation, Danae will develop her artistic research into the role of myth in the nation-building of Greece and its relationship to Europe.
Danae is a graduate from the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam and Goldsmiths, University of London. Recent and upcoming group shows, screenings and performances include: Open Systems at UKS, Oslo (2023), International Film Festival Rotterdam (2023), I am inside who I was at PuntWG, Amsterdam (2022); In the current of the situation at Kunstverein, Amsterdam (2018). Danae is part of the research collective System of Systems and co-organises the research initiative Schemas of Uncertainty. Her writing has been published by Sternberg Press, Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, and Contra Journal.
Danae Io was born in Greece and lives and works in Rotterdam and Athens.
