Claire Shiying Li (UK associate) is an independent curator, film producer and consultant based in London. Through exhibition-making, filmmaking, and programming in collaboration with institutions, she paves innovative paths to support Asian Diasporic art to flourish and alternative art histories to be written.
During her residency with Delfina Foundation, Claire is conducting two research projects: One is to explore socialist/neoliberal fashion in China and Eastern Europe in conjunction with the rise and fall of textile industry, an ongoing process of shaping individual subjectivities in globalization; the other is to build an interdisciplinary conversation that brings terrestrial and spiritual awareness into the speculations around future AI development.
Claire holds a master’s degree in Modern and Contemporary Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from Rice School of Architecture. She studied Filmmaking at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.
She is the Founding Producer of Acting Method Production, which helps Asian and Asian diasporic moving image artists with their feature film production to distribute in both art venues and film festivals. Past films produced by Claire have been screened at Centre Pompidou, Taipei Biennial, Rockbund Art Museum, Westbund Museum, M+ Museum, Whitney Museum, E-flux, and other notable venues. The latest film she served as executive producer for is “In Her Time (Iris’s Version)” directed by artist Diane Severin Nguyen, currently on view at the “Whitney Biennial 2024: Even Better than the Real Thing”.
