Citra Sasmita (Indonesia) is a contemporary artist from Bali whose work focuses on unravelling the myths and misconceptions of Balinese art and culture. She is also deeply invested in questioning a woman’s place in the social hierarchy and seeks to upend the normative construct of gender.
Citra’s work has recently been included in the São Paulo Biennale (2023), Thailand Biennale Chiangrai (2023), Diriyah Biennale Saudi Arabia (2024), and Sydney Biennale (2024). Forthcoming shows include Toronto Biennial (2024).
Citra was born in Bali, Indonesia in 1990.
