Ala Dehghan (Iran) makes works that are a compilation of small scale, mixed media drawings which document her everyday rapport to the experiences that affect her mind and her life in contemporary Iran.

In a kind of “subjective documentation”, she links people, objects and elements of nature fusing them into potentially metaphorical signs. Seen together, her works create an atmosphere of emotional suspense, suggesting multiple implications that stem from the specific personal, cultural and political conditions under which these vignettes were created.

Born in Iran in 1982, Ala graduated from Tehran University with an MA in Painting. She has recently exhibited at XVA Gallery, Thomas Erben Gallery, Kalfayan Gallery, Thaddaeus Ropac, Kunstraum Deutsche Bank (Salzburg), Silk Road Gallery (Tehran).

Ala is currently studying at Yale University.
