Curatorial resident Alia Swastika (Indonesia) presents material from the Indonesian Visual Art Archive (IVAA), which she has recently been working with. This will include film-interview and print material and provide the basis for a discussion about the ‘internationalisation’ of Indonesian art, using exhibition histories as a starting point. Her focus is the power of agency in the process of defining national identity, and how globalisation changes ideas of cultural exchange.

About IVAA

IVAA actively collects art archives through documentation and exploration, and facilitates research through its online archive and physical space in Yogyakarta.

IVAA advances the idea of an alternative space that distinguishes contemporary art dynamics in the post-Reformation era. It documents the growth of alternative (art) practices in cities that may have otherwise been left unrecognised by the government.
