On the occasion of his residency at Delfina Foundation, Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi speaks with Saeb Eigner, author of Art of the Middle East: Modern and Contemporary Art of the Arab World and Iran (2010).
BIOGRAPHIES
Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi is the founder of the Barjeel Art Foundation, an independent initiative established to contribute to the intellectual development of the art scene in the Arab region by building a prominent and publicly accessible art collection in the United Arab Emirates.
In March 2018 Sultan will be a collector-in-residence as part of Delfina Foundation’s Collecting As Practice Programme.

Saeb Eigner is the author of two books Art of the Middle East: Modern and Contemporary Art of the Arab World and Iran (2010) and Sand to Silicon: Going Global. Rapid Growth Lessons From Dubai (2008) and was the senior adviser to the British Museum exhibition Word into Art: Artists of the Modern Middle East (2006; toured 2008). Saeb spent the early part of his life in the Middle East before settling in England. He is a linguist, fluent in Arabic; a leading member of the business community; and a passionate advocate of the arts and education and of their importance in bridging cultural divides. He is a former governor of London Business School, where he studied management. He serves on boards in the areas of education and the arts, and is a speaker on the Middle East at events around the world and on television and radio.
