Join our resident collective Cocina CoLaboratorio (Mexico) for a series of four gatherings of “enunciation” – thinking through and naming the causes we care about as a starting point to enact local change.

About

Taking place around the kitchen table, the local territory and in our imaginaries – and enacted through cooking, eating and sharing together – these four gatherings are inspired by the practice of Comunalidad.

Comunalidad is a set of collective practices enacted by the indigenous communities of Oaxaca in southern Mexico: it is a way of living and working that emerges from a specific relationship with nature proposing other organising mechanisms and an alternative to sustainability.

Over the course of the gatherings, participants will develop a collection of formulas, strategies and practices to build up trans-local learning environments and experiment with collaborative ways of strengthening our relationships with nature in order to aid its regeneration.

This series is for participants who seek to challenge, overthrow, and replace the systems that oppress and exploit nature, humans and other species.

Participation

The workshop series is free but limited to 20 participants. Participants must commit to join all four gatherings and must be over 18.

If you are interested in participating please email events@delfinafoundation.com (subject line: Tierra Sostenible) with just a few sentences about yourself and why you wish to participate. As some events will involve food, please also mention in the email any dietary requirements.

The event is open to all with an interest in the subject and activities.

For those who apply before midday on Monday 17 October, places will be confirmed via email that afternoon.

SERIES OUTLINE

Gathering 1: Territorio (Territory)
Date: Tuesday, 20 October 2022
Location: Delfina Foundation

We will begin this series by recognising our territories of origin and then discussing the notion of the common good and the shared space through our embodied knowledge, biocultural memory and creativity in the kitchen table.

By creating new culinary formulas we will explore answers to the questions: Where do we come from? What is in those spaces? How do we understand nature? How do we value nature, time and space?

Gathering 2: Poder Comunal (Communal Power)
Date: Thursday, 3 November 2022
Location: OmVed Gardens

In this session we will share the table, food and stories and reflect on the spoken and silence organising mechanisms embedded in our day to day.

Through the act of eating, we will touch on the negotiations we perform to redefine the spaces we share: How do we resolve conflicts? How do we adapt to changes in culture/nature? How do we accept and/or resist what comes from other cultural logics?

Gathering 3: Faena (Communal Work)
Date: Thursday, 17 November 2022
Location: Makerversity, Somerset House

This session will focus on collective participation as an attitude, by putting our hands to work towards a common goal. As a group we will organise to cook, share and distribute knowledge in the form of food, as we reflect on what type of subsistence practices occur in our territories and forms of local organisation? What type of “economic” relationships are established? In what times and spaces do these practices take place? How do we prepare to perform them?

Gathering 4: Fiesta (Celebration)
Date: Thursday, 15 December 2022
Location: Delfina Foundation

In this final session we will celebrate the collective construction of possibilities, eating, dancing and celebrating the emergence of new knowledge and the convergence of ideas.

This will be a party to enunciate restitution strategies for the future of earth, and it will encourage the enjoyment of coming together to solve common issues.
