Anne Ruygt

Anne Ruygt (The Netherlands) is an art historian and curator specialising in the field of photography with interests in modernist photography and contemporary cross-disciplinary practices. Between 2010 and 2016 she worked as Junior Curator of Photography at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, where she did extensive research on the collection and different display models. She has (co-) curated collection displays with artists like Erwin Blumenfeld, Robert Frank and Rineke Dijkstra, and several exhibitions, including Bernadette Corporation – Multiplyplex (2016), Addition – Gift of Pieter and Marieke Sanders (2015), How Far How Near – The World in the Stedelijk (2014) and On the Move – Storytelling in Contemporary Photography and Graphic Design (2014).

Over the last three years, Ruygt has also been working together with Frits Gierstberg (Curator at Nederlands Fotomuseum) on an anthology of photography criticism in the Netherlands. Launched in December 2016, the publication offers an overview of the debates around photography’s status as art and document and the medium’s institutional history from the 1980s onwards.

As a participant of the Brooks Fellowship Programme 2017, hosted by Delfina Foundation and Tate Modern Curatorial, Ruygt will research and analyse the development of Tate’s photography collection.
