This year the Contemporary Art Foundation is working in partnership with Delfina Foundation to offer a three-month residency and a three million yen award to Japanese artists and artists living and working in Japan.
CAF was established in 2012 by Yusaku Maezawa, an art collector and Founder and President of Start Today Co, Ltd, which runs Japan’s biggest online fashion mall. The foundation aims to contribute to the promotion of contemporary art by helping young artists and young musicians improve their skills. It also carries out activities such as holding contemporary art exhibitions, etc, to popularise and improve knowledge and education of contemporary art.
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Applicants must submit an entry form via mail to below address. The entry form must be accompanied by up to 5 images (2MB in total, JPEG) or up to 20 min video (mp4) copied onto a CD-R or DVD-R.

All entries must be received by 15th July, 2016. Entries received after this date will not be accepted.
ENTRY CRITERIA
- Japanese artist and artists residing in Japan.
- Graduated about 10 to 15 years ago from an educational institution, e.g. university, graduate school.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
There will be three rounds for review. Those scoring highest in the first round will be nominated to the second round. In the second round, five to six (5 to 6) artists will be selected as finalists. The final round will take place in mid-September and the winning artist will be selected from the group of finalists.

Masato Kobayashi (Artist) Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts (B.A.) in 1984. Started living and working at his studio in Kunitachi, Tokyo in 1985. Received the VOCA Encouragement Prize (1994) and Bienal Internacional de Artes de São Paulo (1996). Moved to Ghent, Belgium, at the invitation of Jan Hoet in 1997~2006. Back to Japan in 2006 and built the studio at Tomonoura in Hiroshima.
Sputniko! (Artist)British/Japanese artist who creates machines, robotics, music and video exploring issues surrounding technology and pop culture. MIT Media Lab Assistant Professor. She has continued to produce playful and cross-boundary work examining technology of everyday life, and has presented her film and installation works internationally in museums such as New York MoMA, and MoCA.
ABOUT CONTEMPORARY ART FOUNDATION AND YUSAKU MAEZAWA
Contemporary Art Foundation was established in 2012 by Yusaku Maezawa, the Founder and President of Start Today Co., Ltd., which runs Japan’s biggest online fashion mall, “ZOZOTOWN”. The foundation aims to contribute to the promotion of contemporary art by helping young artists and young musicians improve their skills. It also carries out activities such as holding contemporary art exhibitions, etc., to popularize and improve knowledge and education of contemporary art.
Yusaku Maezawa was born in 1975 in Chiba. After graduating from Waseda Jitsugyo he left for the United States to play in a band. After returning to Japan, he established Start Today Co., Ltd. in 1998 which engaged in catalog sales of imported CDs and records. In 2004 he founded “ZOZOTOWN”; an online fashion shopping site. The company was listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (3092) in February 2012, and in November, the Contemporary Art Foundation was established. He is a collector, mainly of contemporary art, and also works hard to support young artists.
