Jaffar Al Oraibi
Jaffar Al Oraibi (b.1976) is an emerging artist based in Manama, Bahrain. His paintings have recently exhibited his work at Al Riwaq Art Space, and was awarded the first Prize at the Qatari Diar Art Symposium (2009). Jaffar will be a resident at The Delfina Foundation until September 2010, with the support of the Bahrain Society.

Jawad al Malhi
Jawad Al Malhi (b. 1969, Jerusalem) works across painting, installation, photography and video. A keen observer of the human condition, Jawad's recent works explore the architecture and geography of marginality. He had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Palestine, Jordan, Japan, Europe and the US. He also co-founded the Open Studio Palestine, a project that runs art workshops for children.
Jawad Al-Malhi currently lives and works in Jerusalem.

Shuruq Harb
Shuruq Harb (Palestine) works with photography, video and text in a style that is both intimate and conceptual. Her work has been shown at the Athens Video Art Festival (2008); Camberwell Arts Festival, London (2008); Art Dubai (09); Postmasters Gallery, New York (09) and the Ikon Gallery (Birmingham). Her residency is a collaboration with the A.M Qattan Foundation.

Ahmed Badry
Ahmed Badry (b. 1979) works across painting and installation. His work is an attempt to make everyday visual stimuli, from traffic signs to branding logos, his own, thus revealing the function and influence of these signs. Ahmed has recently shown his work at Darat Al Funun and the Townhouse Gallery, and currently lives and works in Cairo. He will be in residence at The Delfina Foundation between March and May 2010.

Asli Sungu
Asli Sungu’s practice spans from video to her recent paint installations. Her work focuses on private stories, which are often humourous or idiosyncratic but the resonance is something we can all identify with. Whether she is looking at her family rituals or chopping a carrot she explores daily themes that highlight much larger power structures and meanings.
Asli's residency in London is supported by the Goethe Institut, as part of Journeys with no Return. A conference linked to the exhibition will take place on 19th February 2010. More information.
Asli Sungu (b. 1975, Turkey) has exhibited her work internationally, including Witte de With (Rotterdam) and Platform Garanti (Istanbul). She currently lives and works in Berlin.

Ala Younis
Working across video and installation, Ala Younis tentatively reinterprets inherited (and often axiomatic) narratives, through the recollection of political failures of the Arab world. An attempt to look into the conditions which bring up the personal character of these historical episodes, her work often explores the intimate associations and meanings that we construct around us and the objects that surround us.
Ala Younis (b. 1974) has exhibited internationally, including Darat Al Funun, The Jerusalem Show and the Townhouse Gallery. She lives and works in Amman, Jordan and is a current resident artist at The Delfina Foundation, with the support of the British Council - Creative Collaboration. Nefertiti was commissioned by PhotoCairo 4: The Long Shortcut, in the context of the Digital Residencies. She currently lives and works in Amman, Jordan.
